Transport to Mykines

Before visiting the island of Mykines, please take into account that there is a possibility that the departure from the island may be canceled or delayed due to weather. Therefore it is always recommended that you visit Mykines in the beginning of your trip because there is a chance of being stuck on the island.

Public transport 

Ferry 

During the summer season - from May 1. until August 31 - there is daily ferry connection between the island of Vágar and Mykines when weather conditions allow. The ferry sails from the harbour of Sørvágur. 

The public route is operated by ferry M/F Jósup and tickets for the ferry must be purchased online beforehand on mykines.fo. The travelling time is 45 min. 

The winter route is valid from April 1 to April 30 and September 1 to September 30 when the ferry only sails once a day 3 times a week. The ferry doesn't sail during the winter.

Helicopter

Atlantic Airways administrates the helicopter service and has an all year round timetable - if the weather allows. The main purpose of the helicopter is public transport of locals and goods to and from the islands. Mykines is one of these islands. Hence, visitors are not recommended to do round trips with the helicopter. More info about schedule and prices at atlantic.fo

If you book the helicopter one way and the boat the other way, and the boat is canceled, there will be no refund for the helicopter trip. Cancellations for the helicopter must be made at least 24 hours before departure. 

Private tour Operators

Day tours to Mykines can also be booked from privately run companies that have several daily departures as well from Sørvágur.
